Call for Federal Budget Action to Save Medicare Bulk Billing

DRS

"Medicare Bulk Billing is dying and there is an urgent need for the Albanese government to increase the Medicare Bulk billing incentive from $10 to at least $20 to save Medicare Bulk Billing"said Dr Robert Marr OAM ,GP and Vice President of Doctors Reform Society.

"A survey released today by Cleanbill has shown that many GPs are stopping bulk billing due to 10 years of underfunding of Medicare "said Dr Marr

"This really is a life and death moment for Medicare bulk billing and the Albanese government must increase the Medicare incentive for GPs to bulk bill from $10 to $20 in the May budget if there is any chance to save bulk billing"said Dr Marr

"Once doctors stop bulk billing they will never go back and there will be be a massive increase in doctors fees adding to inflation and restrict patients access to needed care"said Dr Marr

"As doctors we understand there is a limited amount of money for Medicare and we are willing to accept no increase in the Medicare rebate overall to pay for a significant increase in the Medicare bulk billing incentive rather than see Medicare bulk billing die resulting in many sick people being unable to afford to see their local doctor and being forced to attend the much more expensive and over crowded local hospital emergency department."said Dr Marr
