Call for Immediate Ban on Engineered Stone

CFMEU

The CFMEU has declared engineered stone must be banned after a the recommendations of an expert report.

Safe Work Australia has recommended banning the deadly product, which is killing workers through deadly dust diseases like silica.

CFMEU National Secretary Zach Smith said the report backed up the union's Stop This Killer Stone campaign.

"This report is the final nail in the coffin of the killer stone," he said.

"There is simply no option for federal and state ministers now aside from banning this deadly product.

"Anyone who opposes a complete ban on engineered stone will have blood on their hands.

"This is a watershed day in our union's campaign to save workers lives but make no mistake, we won't rest until governments ban engineered stone.

"The science has always been clear: there is no safe exposure to engineered stone. Anyone suggesting otherwise wants to kill workers.

"This is a huge day for Australia. Ministers must agree to banning the asbestos of the 2020s."
