Writers of all ages are invited to submit their entries in the Melton City Libraries Short Story Competition for a chance to win a prize and have their talent recognised.
Celebrating its 20th year, the competition will provide the opportunity for entrants to have their work judged by well-known authors and go in the running to share in more than $3000 worth of prizes.
Entries can be presented in text, illustration, video, verse, voice, or a combination of these across three categories – junior, teen and adult.
Written entries are capped at 1500 words for juniors and teens and 3000 words for adults. Other formats should take no longer than 5 minutes to experience.
The judging panel will consist of three fantastic authors including Maxine Beneba Clarke ('Fashionista', 'The Patchwork Bike', 'When We Say Black Lives Matter'), Erine Rijs ('The Crossing'), and Alice Pung ('One Hundred Days', 'Growing up Asian in Australia', 'Laurinda').
Free in-person and online workshops will run throughout the competition submission period with professional authors offering tips and helping participants refine their writing skills.
Entries close Friday 11 July and can be submitted online. Authors must live, work or study in the City of Melton.
