Calling On Creativity Of Youth

The creativity of young Darwin minds is being called upon to help develop the city into a place that meets the needs and aspirations of young people.

City of Darwin is committed to making sure that the young people of Darwin are heard and listened to by holding a three-week consultation to help update Council's Youth Strategy.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said Council is committed to working in partnership with young people to help them and the city prepare for the future.

"If we as a Council are wise, we'll recognise and heed the wisdom of youth in how we develop Darwin," Mr Vatskalis said.

"The Youth Strategy delivers a vision for City of Darwin to ensure young people are connected in their daily lives and helps address expectations of local young people so that they can adapt, grow, learn and contribute."

Input from people with interests and working directly with young people will also be sought.

The consultation is open from 15 March to 4 April and feedback can be provided through engage.darwin.nt.gov.au or at pop-up stalls being held at Casuarina Shopping Centre this Friday afternoon and again on Friday, 26 March.

Young people (12 - 25 years) who complete the online survey will also go into a draw to win two Bass in the Grass tickets.

The Youth Strategy 2022 - 2026 will drive the strategic direction of Council's work in relation to young people over five years and will be based on current research, national and Territory policy, and consulting young people and youth sector agencies.

Achievements of the 2016-2021 Youth Strategy included:

  • Development and delivery of the City of Darwin Youth Charter
  • Development and delivery of LAUNCH Night Series, after-hours activity program on Saturday nights and an annual skate calendar including fortnightly Skate Nights and regular skill building sessions
