Camden Council has successfully secured more than $300,000 in grant funding to support vital community projects, following endorsement at last night's Ordinary Meeting.
Council accepted $200,000 from the NSW Office of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport's 2024/25 Project Support Program to upgrade the floodlighting at Nott Oval in Narellan.
The upgrade will see the removal of existing floodlight poles and outdated infrastructure, installation of new cables, conduits and footings and the introduction of modern LED floodlights. This project will improve visibility for evening training and matches, enhance the functionality of the oval and support increased participation in junior and senior football across Camden.
In addition, $104,600 in funding from the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC), in partnership with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), was accepted as part of the Caring for Country Council Grants Program.
These funds will help deliver three implementation projects, including a 'Reflect' level Reconciliation Action Plan, planning to implement a program of cultural burning on Council's bushland reserves and a bushland restoration project on the Nepean River at Camden.
Council also accepted $12,045 from the NSW Government's Community Building Partnership Program to co-fund an updated accessible lift at Camden Civic Centre. This upgrade will ensure all community members can safely and fully participate in events, performances and presentations.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said the funding was a tremendous boost for the community.
"These grants reflect our commitment to providing high-quality sporting facilities, protecting and celebrating our local environment and culture and ensuring every resident can enjoy Council services and events safely," she said.
"I'd like to sincerely thank The Hon. Steve Kamper MP, Minister for Sport, for the $200,000 to upgrade the floodlighting at Nott Oval in Narellan; The Hon. Paul Scully MP, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, for the $104,600 to help deliver the Caring for Country projects; and The Hon. Kate Washington MP, Minister for Families and Communities, for the $12,045 to co-fund an accessible lift for Camden Civic Centre.
"I also extend my gratitude to Sally Quinnell MP, Member for Camden, Nathan Hagarty MP, Member for Leppington, and Tanya Davies MP, Member for Badgerys Creek, for their continued support.
"I'm excited to see the positive impact these projects will have across Camden."
