Camden Libraries is inviting residents to celebrate the important role libraries play in bringing people together during a special event on Thursday 30 July.

The event, called Open Doors. Open Books. Open Minds., forms part of a statewide celebration marking the 200th Anniversary of the State Library of NSW, recognising two centuries of libraries supporting learning, literacy and community connection across New South Wales.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to visit Camden, Narellan or Oran park Library and enjoy a range of free activities designed to showcase the many services, programs and resources available beyond the bookshelves.

The activities include:

  • Bookmark craft at all library branches for primary school-aged children;
  • Storytime with a special guest at Camden Library, 11am, for children aged between two and five years;
  • Learn about the Library's e-Resources session at Narellan Library, 10am, for adults; and
  • Board games and hot chocolate at Oran Park Library, 4pm, for young people aged between 13 and 17 years.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the event was a wonderful opportunity for the community to discover everything their local library has to offer.

"Libraries are much more than places to just borrow books - they're welcoming community spaces, where people can learn new skills, connect with others and access valuable resources throughout every stage of life," she said.

"As we celebrate 200 years of libraries in NSW, we invite everyone to come along, explore our library branches and experience the many ways Camden Libraries support our growing community.

"Whether you visit weekly or will be visiting for the first time, the Open Day is an opportunity to discover new programs, explore digital resources and celebrate what libraries have to offer."

Visitors can also join or renew their Camden Libraries membership on the day and receive a FREE Camden Libraries tote bag, while stocks last.
