Vigilant camera operators have helped Kaitaia Police put a stop to a burglary at a local retail store late last night.
Instead, three men have appeared in court.
Camera operators based in Kaitaia alerted Police around 11.22pm to two men hanging around in an alley on Matthews Avenue.
"Police arrived at the location to discover three people in a vehicle," Senior Sergeant Richard Garton says. "They were wearing clothing to hide their identity, while allegedly preparing to carry out an attempted burglary of a nearby business."
The trio were arrested on charges including being disguised for burglary.
A search of the car also located a weapon, tools for burglary, drugs and drug paraphernalia.
"It was a good result for the Police and the community," Senior Sergeant Garton says. "It's a firm reminder that Police and our partner agencies are on the look out for suspicious activity, and we'll respond accordingly."
A 30-year-old man and two men, aged 36, appeared in the Kaitaia District Court today on burglary and drug related charges.
They will reappear on 28 August.
