A new pedestrian bridge connection into Rhodes Railway Station is proposed to be delivered as part of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) approved unanimously at the City of Canada Bay's December meeting.
The VPA for 25-27 Leeds Street, Rhodes paves the way for a major piece of infrastructure that will improve access, safety and connectivity for the Rhodes community, pending State Government approval.
The decision builds on Council's broader program of work to improve access and safety around Rhodes Station through the Rhodes Station Precinct Revitalisation, which will make the area surrounding the station safer, more accessible and more picturesque.
The revitalisation covers the public domain from Mary Street, along Walker Street, past the station and through to the new Rhodes Recreation Centre at Walker Street and Gauthorpe Street, and includes new shared pathways, improved lighting, enhanced streetscapes and landscaping, wayfinding and public art.
City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said Council is focused on delivering practical infrastructure for the Rhodes Peninsula and across Canada Bay ahead of further State Government-led development.
"This is another example of Council doing the work - securing the agreements and partnerships needed to deliver infrastructure local communities need. A safe, direct pedestrian link into Rhodes Station will make day-to-day travel easier for local residents, workers and visitors."
The bridge supports Council's broader commitment to improving walking connections, supporting public transport use, and ensuring growth is matched with infrastructure that benefits the community.
"We are delivering the access to transport, now it's time for the NSW Government to come to the table. We don't want to provide residents with world class access to a station from which they can't get a train."
"Our local community needs an upgrade to the station, an urgent uplift in capacity for the T9 line, and a direct ferry service into the City."
Under the VPA the developer will construct the pedestrian bridge and provide a contribution to Transport for NSW to support the connection of the bridge into the station concourse.
The draft VPA was publicly exhibited from 4 November 2025 to 1 December 2025, with feedback received from the community during the exhibition period.
