The Government of Canada has contributed CAD 40 million (USD 28.9 million) to UNDP's regular 'core' resources for 2023. UNDP thanks Canada for the continued and reliable support, enabling UNDP to support those who need it most.
Flexible core funding underpins UNDP's efforts to respond to urgent needs worldwide. The support from Canada is particularly critical in these challenging times of multiple new and protracted crises. It enables UNDP to be present in countries such as Haiti, Afghanistan, Armenia, Libya, Myanmar and Sudan.
Core resources are also supporting efforts to address emerging and longer-term development challenges using sustainable, integrated and innovative development solutions. Through the support of Canada and other core partners, UNDP is able to work in 170 countries and territories globally, building local community networks and focusing on where the development needs are greatest.
UNDP is invested in strengthening the partnership with Canada and delivering results in areas of shared priority, for example to advance gender equality, climate action, and democratic governance. As part of this effort, UNDP counts on Canada's continued support and looks forward to deepening the collaboration in support of those furthest left behind, in particular women and girls.
At the halfway point to 2030, UNDP remains committed to implementing its Strategic Plan 2022-2025 to help get the Sustainable Development Goals back on track. Flexible core resources are vital to UNDP's ability to continue delivering programmes effectively, efficiently and to the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
