Canada, Germany Unite to Denounce Cyber Attacks

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Intergovernmental Affairs of Canada and the Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement:

"Canada stands in solidarity with Germany, Czechia and other allies as they condemn the malicious cyber campaign against the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

"On May 3, Germany issued a statement to announce that Russian cyber threat actors were behind this incident. Canada is concerned with the increased pattern of cyber threats directed at democratic institutions and condemns these malicious activities.

"Canada works with allies and partners, including NATO, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, to continue to advance a stable cyberspace that is built on respect for international law and the norms of responsible state behaviour in cyberspace."
