Canada investment supports economic diversification in Yukon

Federal government investments to strengthen northern economy

April 18, 2019 - Whitehorse, Yukon - Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor)

Economic diversification and growth are key to ensuring a strong and resilient economy in the North. This is why the Government of Canada is investing over $4.3M in sixteen economic development projects in Yukon.

This announcement was made today by Larry Bagnell, Member of Parliament for Yukon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CanNor.

Funding will go towards a range of projects across a variety of economic sectors, including tourism, Indigenous economic development, capacity development, infrastructure, renewable energy and geoscience, as well as targeted support for the development of women entrepreneurs and attracting Canadian francophones to live and work in the North.

These projects are expected to result in the creation of up to 125 jobs in Yukon. Through these investments, the federal government is supporting long-term sustainable economic development in the North.
