Cancer Council WA has welcomed the WA Government's announcement of a new statewide preventative health strategy, praising its focus on keeping West Australians healthy now and into the future.
Cancer Council WA CEO Ashley Reid said prevention was key to reducing the burden of cancer and other chronic diseases across the state.
"We welcome this new approach by the Preventative Health Minister that puts the health of the community and disease prevention front and centre of decision making," Mr Reid said.
Preventing cancer in our community is a key part of our work. Where we live, work and relax impacts our risk of developing cancer. Creating healthy suburbs, schools, workplaces and communities that support and empower West Australians to be healthy is crucial to our efforts.
Mr Reid said supporting a whole-of-government approach to preventing disease and promoting good health is crucial to the sustainability of our health system.
"Cancer Council has delivered hugely successful public education campaigns and programs for over 25 years with ongoing long-term investment from the WA Government," he said.
"This new strategy represents a positive step towards a healthier future for all West Australians."
