Cancer Council WA has congratulated fundraising champion, Daryl (Dazza) Walton after being nominated for the 2021 ‘Citizen of the Year’ at City of Perth’s Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

Our Communications and Community Engagement Manager, Simmone Sharp, said it was great to see Dazza officially recognised for his incredible fundraising efforts .

“Dazza has raised more than $21,000 for Cancer Council WA so we are thrilled Dazza has was nominated for the WA 2021 Citizen of the Year.

“His amazing fundraising efforts have helped make a real difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”

Dazza said he has become known to many in Perth as ‘the guy in the yellow suit’ for his public appearances dressed in a bright yellow suit and hat.

“I started fundraising for Cancer Council WA in 2010 after my best friend Steve was diagnosed with stomach and liver cancer, ” Dazza said.

“I get a real buzz out of fundraising because it helps put smiles back on faces and because I know I’m helping people by doing so.”

When Daffodil Day’s annual street appeal was cancelled last year due to COVID-19, Mr Walton decided to raise funds with a sponsored 44km walk from Forrestfield to the CBD and back instead.

His efforts raised more than $11,000, making him the third highest fundraiser for Daffodil Day in Australia for 2020.

“I feel extremely honoured to have been nominated and while I didn’t win, I look forward to continue fundraising for Cancer Council WA.”
