Cannabis and vehicle seized in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested two women following the seizure of a vehicle and a quantity of cannabis in Katherine.

Police conducted a traffic apprehension on a vehicle on Stuart Highway, Katherine, around 5:00pm on 3 August 2019. Police believe the vehicle was destined for Groote Eylandt.

A search of the vehicle located six Cryovac bags of cannabis and 900 unused deal bags. A search of the 39-year-old driver located a Cyrovac bag of cannabis. A total of 609 grams of cannabis was seized during the search.

The vehicle, which was recently purchased by the owner, was seized by police. An application will be made to have it forfeited to the crown.

The driver and her 29-year-old passenger were arrested and conveyed to Katherine Police Station.

The 39-year-old woman was charged with:

• Supply Schedule 2 Drug Commercial Quantity

• Possess Schedule 2 Drug Commercial Quantity

• Drive Child Unrestrained

• Drive Unregistered Motor Vehicle

• Driver Uninsured Motor Vehicle

The 29-year-old woman was charged with:

• Supply Schedule 2 Drug Commercial Quantity

• Possess Schedule 2 Drug Commercial Quantity

Both women, who are residents of Groote Eylandt, were bailed to appear at Alyangula Local Court on 29 August 2019.
