A Canterbury couple have toasted to their 36th wedding anniversary one day early after they scored a dreamy $2.5 million in today's Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.
The Sydney duo won the Jackpot Prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 11056, drawn Monday 12 January, taking home a total prize of $2,580,026.
While there is a guaranteed 1st Prize winner in every draw, the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize climbed to $2.58 million after there were no Jackpot Prize winners for 16 consecutive draws.
When we revealed their multi-million-dollar windfall, the stunned couple couldn't believe their good fortune, asking us to repeat the prize amount multiple times.
"Oh my god! Unbelievable!" the winning husband gasped.
"Oh my goodness! Did you just say $2.5 million?
"My wife and I are completely overwhelmed right now. I think our heads are starting to spin.
"We've always bought one $2 ticket and one $5 ticket each week into different Lucky Lotteries draws, but that has always been the extent of our purchases.
"Funnily enough, it's our 36th wedding anniversary tomorrow. I guess we might have to kick off celebrations early!
"What extraordinary news!"
With more than $2.5 million soon to hit their bank account, the cheery couple shared they needed some time to process the winning news.
"We're just over the moon at the moment," the winning wife said.
"I don't think we're able to think straight.
"One thing's for certain, we'll be able to help our kids."
The duo's winning entry of one random number was purchased at Hurlstone Park Newsagency, 12 Crinan Street, Hurlstone Park.
Hurlstone Park Newsagency owner Benny Feng shared he was thrilled to discover his outlet had sold a Jackpot Prize winning entry worth $2.5 million.
"It was a complete surprise to discover we'd sold a Jackpot Prize winning entry in yesterday's Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw," he said.
"It's been about a year since we last sold a major prize-winning entry, so we're over the moon to do it again.
"Congratulations to our winner! All the best with your newfound treasure."
