The Canyonleigh community came together to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of village hall on October 7. Locals of all ages, from 3 to over 80, continued a long held tradition of enjoying an evening of dancing at the hall, sharing in fond memories and the presentation of a poem written just for this occasion.
First opened on October 9th 1993 by then Mayor David Wood, the hall was built by a few dedicated local residents with a vision for bringing their community closer together. Unique in its construction the hall is a traditional, log-cabin style structure designed to sit harmoniously in its natural bushland landscape.
A popular venue choice for country wedding receptions and private functions of up to 80 guest, Canyonleigh Community Hall features charming stringy-bark timber and a cosy wood fireplace. It stands as a practical and much-loved monument to a long history of local gatherings and the site itself, Crown Land known as Quigg's Reserve, is so-named in acknowledgement of the Quigg family who have called Canyonleigh home for over 75 years.
In partnership with Wingecarribee Shire Council, community members have invested heart and soul into building and maintaining this valued community hub over the years.
Council Administrator Viv May was honoured to be invited to say a few words on the night. "The community spirit in the room was really something special to be part of. It's a privilege for us to play a part in helping village communities to create places like this that build community," Viv said.
