Penrith City Council has progressed a 20-year vision for Kingswood and Werrington to create vibrant, welcoming and connected centres that support the future growth of the community.
The Kingswood-Werrington Structure Plan, sets a long-term vision for the area, supported by the Kingswood-Werrington Place Plan which focuses on practical actions over the short-medium term.
The Kingswood-Werrington Corridor is an emerging health, education and innovation precinct with major institutions such as the Nepean Hospital, Western Sydney University and TAFE NSW Nepean-Kingswood. This corridor plays a critical role in accommodating future employment and housing.
The Structure Plan seeks to maximise the opportunities created by these anchor institutions, providing capacity for 6,225 additional jobs and more than 8,580 new homes across the corridor, with the population expected to grow to 39,300 by 2046. Importantly, it takes an integrated approach to growth, by planning for jobs, housing, transport and infrastructure together, so more people can live closer to employment and services they need.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said Kingswood and Werrington are ideally located to leverage investment in the region sparked by the Western Sydney International Airport and St Marys' connection to the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport Line.
"Our 20-year vision for Kingswood and Werrington will harness the significant growth opportunities in Western Sydney to attract new investment, support innovation and create local jobs, while maintaining a strong sense of community," Cr Carney said.
"Thank you to the residents, businesses and community groups who provided feedback on the Structure Plan and Place Plan. Your ideas and priorities helped shape this vision to reflect what our community wants now and into the future.
"The plans provide a strategic framework to guide infrastructure delivery, public space activation, stronger transport connections, housing growth, local business vitality as well as short-medium term actions to improve the everyday experiences of the two centres.
"We are excited to build on this strategic framework by creating a Master Plan for Kingswood and Werrington that will deliver a detailed roadmap for the future."
Council has already delivered a successful St Marys Town Centre Master Plan. Council will now start the master planning process for the Kingswood and Werrington centres with further technical studies and consultation with the community to be undertaken.
