Vasse students have kicked off the 2020 school year in brand new specialist classrooms, delivered as part of a multimillion-dollar upgrade to the 12-year-old Cape Naturaliste College.
New spaces include design and technology workshops, a machine room, welding bays, design and graphics laboratory, staff study, storerooms and external covered work areas.
A new science and information technology building features seven science laboratories, a preparation and technicians' area, staff study and storage. Two computer laboratories, a business studies classroom and toilets are also included.
A new performing arts area has a general classroom and an inclusive education classroom, staff studies, and a health and physical education area with a fitness centre. A drama theatre with new dance spaces, green room, storage, toilets and foyer is linked to new cafeteria seating and the school's existing canteen. There is also a media classroom, a studio with editing and audio visual controls, music classroom, rehearsal rooms, staff studies, student services and an administration area.
The multimillion-dollar project has also delivered a new commercial kitchen and restaurant for hospitality students, visual arts and digital media spaces and a staff room.
The existing gymnasium has had a new covered area added. The sports shed has been replaced, and four new multipurpose sports courts added as well as a hockey pitch. Additional parking spaces have been created.
More than 900 students attend Cape Naturaliste College.
The State Government is investing $452.8 million over this financial year to improve infrastructure in public schools and create jobs.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"Cape Naturaliste College students will be able to thrive in these vibrant new learning spaces.
"The new facilities for the arts, design and technology, and sports are particularly exciting.
"It is fantastic to see such a quality education facility emerge for young people in the South-West."

"These new specialist classrooms will ensure Vasse students are able to pursue their passions across multiple subjects and learn valuable skills, which will take them to where they want to go beyond graduation.
"The South-West is home to so many bright and gifted young people so it is terrific to see that their talents and ambitions will now be supported with these new facilities."
