Members of Territory Road Policing in Alice Springs have impounded a vehicle under the Northern Territory's anti-hooning legislation following an alleged dangerous driving incident in the suburb of Braitling.
At approximately 6:20pm on Friday 7 August 2026, police received a report from a member of the public regarding a vehicle allegedly performing burnouts on Dixon Road.
Officers from Strike Force Viper and Territory Road Policing commenced investigations and subsequently identified the vehicle involved.
Police later located the vehicle at a residence in Gillen, where the 21-year-old male driver was identified and spoken to.
The vehicle was impounded for 48 hours under anti-hooning legislation, and the driver was issued infringement notices for:
- Drive vehicle causing loss of traction;
- Careless driving; and
- Fail to keep left of carriageway.
Acting Sergeant Ben Keoghan of Territory Road Policing in Alice Springs said police would continue to target dangerous driving behaviours on Territory roads.
"This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
"All motorists have a responsibility to drive safely and help protect other road users.
"Police will continue to take firm action against those who engage in dangerous driving behaviour."
Police remind motorists that anti-hooning laws are in place to protect the community and will be enforced whenever necessary.
