Cardinia Shire Council Statement

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen has been granted a leave of absence from his role as Mayor and Councillor due to work requirements.

At the Council meeting on Monday 15 December, Council approved the leave and noted that Cr Owen would resume duties as soon as practical, advising Councillors and the CEO in writing when available to return.

"I thank my fellow councillors for their continued support and understanding while I take a leave of absence," Mayor Owen said.

"Their support ensures that Council can continue delivering on its commitments to the community without disruption.

"I look forward to returning soon, and working together in the best interests of our community."

During the Mayor's absence, Deputy Mayor Cr Liz Roberts will assume Mayoral responsibilities.

Cr Owen will not receive the Mayoral and Councillor allowance while on leave, and the arrangement will be reviewed at the February 2026 Council meeting if required.
