Three teams of kid journalists from Rio de Janeiro's municipal education network took part in covering the event, which dealt with sharing educational content for sustainable development. Two teams went to the meeting at Casa Firjan while the GEO Isabel Salgado team welcomed the delegates at their school for a technical visit.
With the theme "Connecting Managers of Digital Resource Platforms: Sharing Educational Content on Education for Sustainable Development (Educação para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável /ESD)", the second in-person meeting of the G20 Education Working Group (WG) took place this month. The 31 international delegations reached the consensus that digital educational resources can enhance learning in an equitable way and foster education for sustainable development initiatives in the classroom.
In addition to technicians and teachers, the participation of another interested party in these debates also made a difference: the students. In addition to the participation of the Global Student Forum as a guest organization, youth from Rio de Janeiro's municipal schools also attended the event, taking part in the news coverage of the event as Kids 20 reporters. The kids from the two schools covered the meeting at Casa Firjan, interviewing international and Brazilian delegates as well as the WG coordinator, Francisco Figueiredo de Souza, who works as a Special Advisor for International Affairs at Brasil's Ministry of Education (Ministério da Educação /MEC). In addition to their journalistic participation on the day of the meeting, a third group of students produced special content about the delegations' technical visit to their school, the GEO Isabel Salgado in Barra da Tijuca. The Education WG will hold two more meetings: a final technical stage and the upcoming ministerial meeting. The meetings will take place in October in Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará. The city also has students engaged in the Kids 20 project, who are expected to take part in the coverage at the time.
