Football Australia is delighted to announce that Carl Veart has been appointed as Subway Joeys Head Coach.
Veart - a 23-cap Socceroo - joins Football Australia following five years as Head Coach of Adelaide United FC, having previously served as an Assistant and Interim Coach before assuming the top job officially in 2020.
Throughout his tenure at Adelaide United FC, Veart guided a young squad of locally developed players to three Semi Final appearances and during that time was credited with transitioning the likes of Nestory Irankunda, Mohamed Toure, Panagiotis Kikianis, Ethan Alagich and Luka Jovanovic into professional football.
Having worked with a significant crop of current U20, U23 and senior national team players at the beginning of their footballing journey - courtesy of his work at South Australia's National Training Centre - Veart takes the reins of the U17s program as one of Australia's most revered coaches in youth development.
Veart's appointment brings an exciting combination of senior coaching experience, youth national team exposure, a proven track record of youth development and an intimate knowledge of the Australian football ecosystem.
Veart has also previously been involved within the national team pathway, having worked with the Young Socceroos as an Assistant Coach and serving as an Assistant Coach for the Joeys in 2012.
Prior to commencing his coaching journey, Veart carved out a club career that featured stints at Sheffield United FC and Crystal Palace FC, more than 300 games for Adelaide City FC and a 2005/06 Premiership with Adelaide United FC - earning his place in Football South Australia's Hall of Champions.
Veart will commence with Football Australia immediately, heading to the Emerging Socceroos Championships to be played at the Home of the Matildas between 6-11 July to oversee the technical team identifying the next cohort of Subway Joeys.
The Subway Joeys' next assembly will be during September, where Veart will select his first squad to travel to Japan to compete in the International Youth Soccer Tournament in Niigata.
Football Australia's Interim CEO, Heather Garriock said Veart's experience in youth development would be invaluable to the U17 program.
"Carl was successfully appointed amidst a very competitive recruitment process, which speaks to both his individual qualities and the depth of coaches we have across Australian and international football," Garriock said.
"His record as both a player and coach speak for themselves, and we have complete confidence in Carl's ability to identify and nurture talent in a high-performance environment.
"The experience he brings from both the A-League, time previously with our junior national teams and his coaching career within the South Australian development and pathway system, gives Carl a great perspective on how these programs can best interact for the growth and development of our players.
"We're very excited to welcome Carl to Football Australia and are looking forward to the role he can play within our pathway," concluded Garriock.
Newly appointed Subway Joeys Head Coach, Carl Veart said he was excited to begin in his new role.
"It's a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the national team pathway and contribute to the development of the next generation of Socceroos," Veart said.
"I've had the privilege of working with many players at the beginning of their junior careers, watching them grow and develop as players for both club and country. It gives me a great sense of pride to see not only their achievements on the pitch, but the young men they become off it."
"The Subway Joeys is the first step on the pathway for any player dreaming of representing the senior national team, we play a vital role in starting their journey on the right foot and giving them the tools they need to be successful."
"I'm looking forward to arriving in Melbourne to watch the Emerging Socceroos Championships and getting to work with our staff ahead of September," Veart concluded.
