This statement follows the announcement today by the Queensland Government in relation to the Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Project.
CSIRO's role is to provide scientific advice as an input to government approval processes. CSIRO does not make approval decisions or make recommendations on approval decisions.
In May 2019, CSIRO and Geoscience Australia were contracted by the Queensland Government's Department of Environment and Science to review aspects of Adani's Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem Management Plan for the Carmichael Coal Mine project.
On Friday 7 June 2019, CSIRO and Geoscience Australia provided their advice to the Queensland Government and CSIRO has not been asked to provide any further advice on this issue.
