The Shelter Collective's Mobile Outreach Bus Initiative (MOBi) will be on the move next year with help from the generosity of concert-goers at this year's Carols by Candlelight.
$8086.75 was raised at two near sold-out Pilbeam Theatre concerts, with the amount made up of proceeds from ticket purchases along with donations and merchandise sales.
Scheduled to be launched early in 2026, MOBi is a mobile support service which provides connection, food and amenities direct to those in need sleeping rough.
Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson, said that Carols by Candlelight had a proud tradition of helping those in need.
"Carols by Candlelight has always strived to help those in need in the community," he said.
"This year, with homelessness and the affordable housing crisis continuing to be one of the biggest issues that many communities face, it is fitting that we have nominated The Shelter Collective to benefit from the generosity of concert-goers.
"This amount won't solve homelessness on its own but it will help to take at least some of the pressure off those experiencing homelessness in our region," he said.
Established in 2022, The Shelter Collective is a Rockhampton-based community-driven collective with the goal of planning and delivering affordable and accessible housing solutions to those in need, regardless of their circumstances.
The Shelter Collective Director David Grenfell said: "We're extremely grateful for the support from the community at Carols by Candlelight. This donation will go towards making MOBi a sustainable initiative, reaching more people who are doing it tough and connecting them to the supports they need," he said.
Carols by Candlelight is a Rockhampton Regional Council Event, supported by CQ Today, Channel Seven, Triple M and other local businesses.
