Chilly weather wasn't enough to deter the green thumbs across Casey who pitched in to plant 5,000 trees in Cranbourne West as part of this year's National Tree Day on Sunday 26 July.
This planting adds to the work done in previous years, helping to create important habitat for local wildlife as part of a nature corridor that will eventually link to Brooklyn Greens Reserve.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen thanked all the volunteers and Councillors who came along to lend a hand, along with the 77 local schools and kindergartens who took advantage of Council's free plant giveaway for their own planting day on Friday 24 July.
"There was great interest from the community, with registrations for the planting day fully subscribed," Cr Koomen said.
"Events like this is where our community spirit really shines, with Casey residents of all ages digging in to help our local environment thrive.
"It also goes a long way to supporting local biodiversity and Council's Greening Casey plan, with a goal to plant more than 200,000 trees and shrubs over the next two years to increase tree canopy and create functioning, healthy ecosystems across the municipality."
