Homicide Squad detectives are today releasing CCTV of a vehicle they are searching for following a fatal shooting in Ascot Vale yesterday.
Emergency services were called North Street, near Mount Alexander Road, about 12.15am on Sunday 21 June after two passersby located a man with a gunshot wound.
The 33-year-old Ascot Vale man had been struck in the lower body.
The man was treated at the scene, however he passed away en route to hospital.
The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still to be determined, however police believe the victim was walking along Mount Alexander Road when the male offender approached him and fired a number of shots.
Luckily no one else was injured during the shooting.
The offender then got into a nearby white coloured sedan and headed west along North Street.
Shortly after, police spotted the vehicle driving erratically and it was last seen heading south along Smithfield Road towards Footscray.
That vehicle is yet to be located and it is not known how many people were inside the car at the time. The vehicle is believed to be a white Mercedes sedan.
Detectives are releasing CCTV footage of that vehicle, which is seen almost striking a male pedestrian near the roundabout at the intersection of Epsom Road and Racecourse Road in Flemington.
Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle travelling through the Ascot Vale or Footscray/Maribyrnong areas on the night of the shooting, or who may have information about the current location of the car.
Police are also keen to identify the pedestrian shown in the footage. He is not believed to be linked to the incident and is being treated as a witness only.
The motivation for the shooting is still to be determined however police are treating it as a targeted attack.
It's believed the victim had ties to a number of serious and organised crime groups at the time of his death.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have knowledge about who was involved in the fatal shooting and why it took place.
