The Finocchiaro CLP Government and Charles Darwin University (CDU) have come to an agreement on the location of the new Katherine Trades Training Centre, with CDU confirming to the Federal Government the location and delivery arrangements for the centre.
The new centre will be constructed on the parcel of land gifted to CDU from the Northern Territory Government between Katherine High School and MacFarlane Primary School.
Minister for Education and Training and the Member for Katherine, Jo Hersey, said she was proud to have helped secure better trades training opportunities for Katherine.
"This is what happens when Governments work together with industry to get the best outcomes possible," Mrs Hersey said.
"I'd like to thank Federal Minister for Skills and Training Andrew Giles and CDU for working with the NT Government to secure better trades training opportunities for students in Katherine and the Big Rivers region."
"Having trades training opportunities directly next to a high school, where the students and existing infrastructure are, just makes sense."
Principal of Katherine High School, Nick Lovering, said he was excited to see more trades training opportunities for Katherine students.
"Having the trades training centre next to our school will provide a pipeline to real jobs for our students.
"Not only will the trades training centre be convenient for students while they're at school, it will show them the opportunities available once they have graduated."
