Celebrate Seniors Week 2021 with friendship and connection

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Community Services and Development

The Tasmanian Liberal Government wants our state to be the best place to live, work, invest and be part of a family as we grow older, and we have committed to a range of measures designed to ensure older Tasmanians are respected, protected and cared for in our community.

The importance of looking after our wellbeing through connection to each other and our communities cannot be overstated, and Seniors Week provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what we have here in Tasmania.

Held between October 11 and 17 2021, this year's theme for Seniors Week 2021 is "friendship" with the tagline of "discover.imagine.together", and I encourage everyone to check out the array of activities COTA Tasmania has in store.

Our number one priority continues to be the health, wellbeing and safety of Tasmanians, and we thank all organisations and individuals for embracing Seniors Week 2021, and for providing the opportunity for older Tasmanians to connect with each other and their communities.

The pandemic remains an ever-present challenge, and while you are checking out the activities, don't forget to Check In to each and every event you attend.

To help everyone get on board, as part of the Tasmanian Government's commitment to supporting Tasmanians as they age, fostering community spirit and building a more inclusive state, Tasmanian Senior cardholders will again be able to ride on any Metro bus service for free during Seniors Week 2021.

Congratulations and thank you to COTA Tasmania for organising another activity-packed year of events to celebrate older Tasmanians, for helping to ensure older Tasmanians can get out and about and be socially connected.

We also thank older Tasmanians who have worked hard throughout COVID-19 and taken action to keep themselves and others safe when it mattered most, and we encourage you to help keep yourself and those around you safe by booking in your vaccination if you have not already done so.
