Celebrating Community Heroes This National Volunteer Week

Moira Shire Council is proud to celebrate National Volunteer Week 2026 by hosting two free community events to honour the dedicated volunteers who make our region a wonderful place to live and work.

Under this year's national theme, 'Your Year to Volunteer', the events will bring together volunteers, community members and organisations to recognise the significant contribution volunteers make to life in Moira Shire.

Each year, Council hosts events across different townships throughout the Shire to bring the celebration of volunteering closer to home - and this year, the celebrations head to Numurkah and Cobram.

Whether you are already a volunteer or simply curious about where to begin, everyone is welcome to attend.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said volunteers are the heartbeat of regional communities like ours.

"The contribution that volunteers make to life in Moira Shire simply cannot be overstated. Every day, hundreds of people across our towns give their time, their skills and their energy to support their neighbours, strengthen our community organisations and make this region a better place for everyone," Dr Emonson said.

"National Volunteer Week is the perfect opportunity to pause and say thank you - and I encourage everyone to come along to one of our free events to celebrate the extraordinary people who make Moira Shire the wonderful community it is."

The events will feature inspiring local guest speakers, a volunteer-inspired short film, fun games, great prizes and light refreshments.
