Western Australians are today celebrating International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), which is held annually on 3 December.

There will be 105 inclusive events and activities held across WA this week, to celebrate and recognise people with disability.

The Cook Government has contributed more than $100,000 towards the events through the IDPwD grants program.

The grants program, funded by Department of Communities and administered by Developmental Disability WA, allocated between $500 and $1000 to 98 organisations.

Highlights of this year's event program include a catwalk show and model photoshoot for people with disability at WA Museum Boola Bardip, an all-inclusive Christmas party event held by the South West Autism Network at the Bunbury Wildlife Park and a Blind and vision impaired tennis experience by Peppermint Grove Tennis Club.

Disability Services Minister Don Punch has attended several IDPwD events since Friday, including the NDS Luncheon for International Day of People with Disability on 1 December, where he reiterated the importance of this year's theme 'My Life, Our Community'.

The theme highlights the importance of everyone having the right to make decisions about their life and to be involved in their community without barriers.

The annual luncheon is a highlight of the IDPwD calendar, with around 600 attendees including people with disability, the disability sector, as well as private, corporate and government sectors.
