A man has died following an alleged assault in Sunshine on Saturday.
The 60-year-old man sustained critical injuries after he was allegedly set upon by several youths after they attempted to steal items from a nearby store on Hampshire Road on 1 August just after 2pm.
The victim, who was working nearby, is alleged to have come to the aid of a nearby shop employee who was involved in a scuffle in the street over the allegedly stolen items.
The man was transported to hospital where he sadly died yesterday afternoon.
Three boys aged 12, 13 and 15 years-old from the Brimbank area, a 14-year-old girl from the Banyule area and a 14-year-old girl from the Brimbank area were each charged with affray, violent disorder, intentionally cause serious injury and intentionally cause injury.
They were remanded to appear before a children's court at a later date.
Further investigations exonerated the 13-year-old boy and his charges were withdrawn.
Detectives will consider upgrading the charges following the death of the victim.
