After a small delay to the scheduled installation, the barrier was secured in place on Wednesday 4 November. It will remain there until April 2027.
Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver said he's pleased to give swimmers another option to experience the health benefits of ocean swimming.
"The swimming enclosure proved to be a popular addition last summer, not only for locals and visitors, but also for workers in Fremantle who decided to start or finish their day with a few laps of the bay.
"I think we'll see more people this year packing their swimming gear and making it part of their summer fitness routine."
The swimming enclosure runs approximately 340 metres between the breakwaters on either side of the bay and sits about 125 metres offshore.
The WA Government provided $500,000 towards the fabrication of the barrier and the City of Fremantle is responsible for the annual operating costs of deployment, maintenance and storage.
This Sunday, thousands of runners will be in Fremantle for the Revo Fitness Fremantle Running Festival, organised by the West Australian Marathon Club.
The sell out event starts and finishes at Fremantle Oval, with Half Marathon, 10km and 5km distances. Runners are welcome to cool off afterwards with a dip at Bathers Beach!
