Celebrating our multicultural city on Canberra Day

It's time to celebrate Canberra! This Canberra Day (Monday 14 March), join the festivities as Commonwealth Park comes to life with a showcase of multicultural performances, music, fabulous food and drink and community activities.

Assistant Minister for Economic Development Tara Cheyne said Canberra Day 2022 is a time for the community to come together and celebrate life in the Capital.

"Events are back, and this Canberra Day will be a true celebration of our city as we begin to come together again. The day will kick off with the traditional Canberra Balloon Spectacular filling our skies with colour as over 25 hot air balloons launch from 6:30am to 8:30am at Patrick White Lawns, before Commonwealth Park comes alive from 11am with a great line up of multicultural music and dance.

"With three performance stages and a mix of talented roving performers and workshops, it's guaranteed to be a fun day out. The evening will see the final night of Illuminations and The Forage at the Festival Hub in the National Triangle from 6pm to 11pm.

"Food is always a focus when we celebrate life in the capital and this Canberra Day will be no exception, with a range of food trucks and stalls to be scattered along the Lake offering a variety of international cuisine from Africa, Ecuador, Peru, the Czech Republic, Tibet and Colombia to name just a few.

"The day will also highlight our city's diverse culture and creativity, with Canberrans invited to participate in a series of community arts workshops in the lead up to, and on the day, to celebrate what it means to call Canberra home. The workshops, designed for people of all ages and skills levels, are led by local artists and will explore the unexpected delights and quirks of our city as well as provide an opportunity to learn new skills, connect, and tell stories through creative expression.

"Canberra Day this year has so much on offer and is a wonderful time for the community to get together to celebrate life in our city and reflect on what it means to be a Canberran," said Minister Cheyne.
