Chair appointed for Tasmanian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

Congratulations to Mr Rod Gobbey who has been appointed as Chair of the Tasmanian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC).

The AWAC, established under the Animal Welfare Act 1993, provides important advice to the Government on animal welfare issues and considering any proposed changes to animal welfare legislation.

Mr Gobbey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role having held a number of high-level roles in the agriculture sector.

These include recently as Executive Director of Primary Industries in the Northern Territory, and previously as the General Manager of Biosecurity and Product Integrity for the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries and Water.

The Tasmanian Government takes animal welfare extremely seriously and is committed to ensuring we maintain a world-class animal welfare system for wildlife, companion animals and livestock.

Mr Gobbey has been appointed for a three-year term.
