The State Government has recently announced that the Cranbourne Community Hospital is opening in early October. This will be a fantastic addition to our community, bringing important health services to Casey.
As part of the hospital project, over 300 on site car parking spaces will be available - including for hospital staff and visitors.
Council has been involved in long-term conversations with the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) and Monash Health about this project to ensure we're representing our community's best interest.
We were recently informed of the opening date, finalised number of car parks to be available at the site, and the hospital's operating hours. Unfortunately, the project's plans for car parking and operating hours are likely to add extra demand in the nearby area - demand that we weren't made aware of earlier.
This puts us in a challenging position, as we now have a limited timeframe to put a plan in place to manage this extra demand - and most importantly protect the nearby streets and our community's access to parking.
Our top priority is to ensure that our community can access important services like health and sport as they need.
Is Council introducing time parking restrictions?
Yes, we are introducing new time restrictions for parking around the Casey Complex. Parking will remain free at Casey Complex.
- There will be 135 parking spaces that will remain unrestricted near Casey Stadium, with an additional 200+ spaces with 2P or 3P restrictions
- Across the precinct the new timed-parking restrictions will only apply Monday to Saturday from 6am to 6pm. This means parking will be unrestricted in these areas from 4pm (in 2P spaces) and 3pm (in 3P spaces) from Monday to Saturday.
- No time restrictions will apply on Sundays.
We've taken into consideration things like school drop-offs, staff shift changeovers, and sporting events.
When will parking restrictions be introduced?
From Monday 29 September we will install new signs to show the 1 hour, two hour and 3 hour parking limits in different areas.
Why are Council introducing timed parking restrictions and is this just a way to make more money?
We know that parking has been a challenge at Casey Complex and the opening of the new hospital is likely to add more pressure. There are community members who need to access sport, work and other services easily. Our priority is to manage the demand for parking as the new hospital opens - and do our best to protect access for our community.
Parking in the area remains free, but will be time-limited in designated areas to help with parking available for everyone.
What is being done to ensure hospital staff and visitors are using the allocated hospital car parking first (and not nearby community spaces)?
We are working closely with the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) and Monash Health to formalise a parking management agreement. This will help ensure hospital users prioritise designated parking, reducing pressure on nearby community spaces.
What should I do if I notice ongoing parking issues?
We will be closely monitoring parking usage and community feedback to assess the effectiveness of the new restrictions and adjust as needed.
Your feedback will help us manage the transition and improve access for everyone.
