Changes To Recycling Stations At Council Facilities

Lake Macquarie City Council

Council has installed new recycling stations at libraries and other facilities to improve opportunities for the community to dispose of battery and mobile phone waste.

New 62 litre purpose-built, fire-retardant drums have been installed at each site to collect and store up to 100kg of mixed batteries at a time.

The drums have built-in sensor technology that detect heat fluctuations and volumes of batteries, so when the drums are 80% full, collectors are notified to empty the drum.

While mobile phones can still be dropped off, several other items will no longer be accepted at these facilities.

CDs, DVDs smoke detectors and light globes will no longer be accepted.

These items will now need to be taken to a Community Recycling Centre at Awaba or Belmont North for disposal.
