Charge re Wonthella Fatal Crash, WA

Major Crash Investigators with the assistance of Mid-West Gascoyne Traffic officers have charged an 18 year old man as a result of their investigation into a fatal crash that occurred just before 8pm in Wonthella on Tuesday, 24 January 2017.

It is alleged the man (who was 17 at the time) was riding a Honda CBR motorcycle with a 14 year old male pillion passenger along the North West Coastal Highway, when the motorcycle turned into the path of a Jeep Cherokee that was turning right at the intersection of Eighth Street, WA Police say.

The 14 year pillion passenger from Spalding received critical injuries and was conveyed to Geraldton Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 18 year old man from Geraldton has been charged with:-

•Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death;

•Drive under Influence of Drugs; and

•No Authority to Drive (Never Held).

He is due to appear before the Geraldton Children’s Court on 13 June 2017.
