Northern Territory Police have charged a 26-year-old male following a violent incident in Palumpa.
During the early hours of Sunday 23 September, the man allegedly became involved in a heated argument at an outstation near the community of Palumpa, Northern Territory Police say.
Police alleged the male armed himself with a metal pole and threatened a woman before he took control of a loaded high-powered rifle, pointed it at another male, and threatened to kill him.
The male is then alleged to have raised the rifle and fired a shot into the air.
He left the scene in an alleged stolen vehicle after he was disarmed by bystanders.
The man was arrested by police in Wadeye yesterday morning.
Members of the Serious Crime Squad have travelled to Wadeye to continue investigations.
The alleged offender has been charged with:
- 3 x Aggravated assault
- 2 x Threats to kill
- Recklessly endanger life - aggravated
- Discharge firearm
- Possess firearm under the influence
- Possess/use firearm unlicensed
- Armed with an offensive weapon
- Breach suspended sentence
He has been remanded in custody.
