Charges Laid: Carjacking and Crash

A man has been charged over allegedly carjacking another man at gunpoint and crashing into a parked car in Sydney's inner west overnight.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Thursday 19 May 2023), police have been told a 38-year-old man was sitting inside his car on Old Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill, when another man entered the vehicle and threatened him with a firearm.

The second man, aged 27, allegedly directed him to drive before the two became involved in an altercation on Canterbury Road, Campsie.

The 38-year-old man exited the vehicle before contacting police. He was taken to Canterbury Hospital in a stable condition.

The 27-year-old man continued to drive the vehicle before it crashed into a parked car on Bexley Road, Earlwood.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command arrested the man following a short foot pursuit.

He was then taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for observation before he was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with kidnaping, robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon, possess loaded firearm in a public place and possess unauthorised firearm.

The Queensland man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 20 May 2023).
