Charges Laid in Bankstown Shooting: Strike Force Osage

A man will face court today, one of three people charged after a teenage boy was allegedly shot in Sydney's west earlier this year.

About 7.40pm on Friday 7 February 2025, police attended Bankstown Hospital following reports a 17-year-old boy – in the company of an 18-year-old man – had presented with a gunshot wound to the right leg.

The 18-year-old man was arrested at the time and charged with six offences, including conceal serious indictable offence. He remains before the courts.

As part of inquiries, police established a crime scene at a park on Mulga Street, Punchbowl, where they located and seized a spent ammunition cartridge which underwent forensic examination.

Detectives attached to Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation, under Strike Force Osage.

On Thursday 27 February 2025, investigators executed search warrants at two homes in Greenacre, seizing a loaded firearm, cocaine, MDMA and cash at a home on Wilbur Street. The occupant, an 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm – pistol, not keep firearm safely-pistol, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm par, possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority, two counts of supply prohibited drug, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime, and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.

He appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Friday 28 February 2025, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 7 May 2025.

Following further inquiries, detectives attended a correctional facility at Silverwater yesterday (Wednesday 30 May 2025), where a 19-year-old-man was arrested and charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property, possess loaded firearm public place and acquire etc pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order.

He is due to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 1 May 2025).
