EPA will lay charges in court against 59-year-old Graham White alleging breaches of sections of the Environment Protection Act (1970).
The charges come after investigations into a regional property 15 kilometres south of Kaniva at Lemon Springs and the discovery of multiple sites of buried chemicals.
EPA will allege the site is owned by White and that it does not have a licence to receive such waste.
EPA made the announcement to the Kaniva community at a meeting in the north western township on Wednesday evening (24 March 2021).
"EPA used its powers to step in and clean up the property to ensure the safe excavation and disposal of the chemicals and rehabilitation of the property. Work has already begun with a new contractor EnviroPacific, and we will continue to ensure all possible site safety and security measures are taken to reach a successful conclusion," said EPA Project Manager Julian Bull.
EPA also told the meeting that continued monitoring of ground water showed no negative impacts and that it would be maintained throughout the clean up.
