- The first of 50 written exams starts this morning
- Nearly 15,400 secondary school students will sit written exams in coming three weeks
Almost 15,400 Western Australian secondary students will sit at least one written Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) examination in the next three weeks.
At 9.20am today more than 5,000 students will start the first exam, Chemistry. Geography, German: Background Language and German: Second Language exams will take place this afternoon.
The final exams will be Ancient History and Italian: Second Language on Friday, November 16.
English has the most participants with 11,050 students, followed by Mathematics Applications with 8,628 and Human Biology with 5,016. Up to 13,204 students will sit four or more of the 50 examinations.
Byford Secondary College and Fremantle College will have students sitting ATAR exams for the first time.
Students can access their personal results online from Monday, December 17.
As noted by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"I wish all students the best as they enter the exam period - for many this is the culmination of hard work throughout their school life.
"In the coming weeks, students will be examined on subjects ranging from Aviation to Visual Arts and everything in between.
"While this is a nerve-wracking time, I urge students to remember there is always more than one way to achieve their goals if they don't get the examination results they're looking for.
"Whether they decide to pursue further education, training opportunities or join the workforce, all students can be proud of what they have already achieved."
