The Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA) today congratulated Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Housing Minister Clare O'Neil on Labor's election victory.
"CHIA extends its warmest congratulations to the Albanese Government on its election victory," said CHIA CEO Wendy Hayhurst. "We look forward to working collaboratively with the government to deliver on the Housing Australia Future Fund and build upon this foundation to address the critical issues of rental stress and homelessness affecting so many Australians."
Hayhurst stressed the urgent need for action on housing affordability, something which featured prominently in voter concerns throughout the campaign.
"Kudos to the government for establishing the Housing Australia Future Fund in its first term of office. The HAFF represents a great platform on which to build. We now need to see this consolidated by an evidence-based National Housing and Homelessness Plan that clearly demonstrates how we will re-balance our dysfunctional housing system. CHIA and our members across the community housing sector are primed ready to build on existing partnerships with Minister O'Neil and the government to deliver practical solutions that will help to ease Australia's housing crisis."
With rental affordability at critical levels in many parts of Australia and homelessness on the rise, Ms Hayhurst noted that the community housing sector offers proven, cost-effective approaches to expanding housing options for those most in need.
"We believe this term of government presents a real opportunity to accelerate recent progress in transforming Australia's housing landscape. By working together, we can ensure that every Australian has access to a safe, stable and affordable home."
