The Finocchiaro CLP Government is working with the Commonwealth to rebuild Territory following widespread flooding across the Northern Territory.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro and Treasurer Bill Yan have flown to Canberra for urgent meetings today with Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Infrastructure Minister Catherine King.

In the wake of unprecedented flooding across the Northern Territory over the summer period, the Chief Minister and Treasurer will meet with key federal ministers to discuss future flood prevention and rebuilding efforts.

"Our floodwaters haven't even receded yet, but we are down in Canberra making sure that the federal government understands the gravity of this situation and that we are taking important steps forward to rebuild the Territory," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

"Our partnership with the federal government has been strong throughout the entire response phase, and as we move into recovery, we need to continue that partnership so that every Territorian, no matter where they live, is supported to recover and rebuild."

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro and Treasurer Bill Yan will return in time for parliamentary sittings on Tuesday.
