A week of free events to entertain and fascinate Hobsons Bay's youngest residents and their families will be held later this month to celebrate Children's Week.

Across Hobsons Bay, a range of free, fun and educational events will be held for families with children aged 12 and under from Saturday 22 October to Sunday 30 October.

Held in the last week of October every year, Children's Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

This year's theme is the right of all children to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development.

Among the jam-packed schedule is:

  • Come and try sessions at Altona Hockey Junior Club;

  • Bindu creative dance and yoga sessions;

  • Hobsons Bay Library programs, including baby time, story time, toddler time and afterschool explorers;

  • Hullaballoo Music's 'Move It 4 Kids', interactive musical comedy sessions;

  • Labcoat Learning's minibeasts display with butterfly tent;

  • Little Art Big Art – anime and creative drawing art classes;

  • Mums Matter Psychology, a parenting webinar on raising an emotionally intelligent child;

  • Newport Fiddle & Folk will join Rocking Russell for a special story time;

  • Pro Sport Coach, a parenting webinar on how sport can help develop resilience in children;

  • Drop-in STEM sessions from SciencePlay Kids; and

  • Toy Library's stay and play open sessions.

Hobsons Bay's Children's Week is presented in partnership with the Victorian Government.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Peter Hemphill, said Children's Week would be a great celebration for kids and parents.

"This is a fantastic program of events to get our city's kids out and taking part in fun, educational or active new experiences," Cr Hemphill said.

"We are so fortunate to live in a place where our children can grow up to get a good education and live happy, active lives in a great environment.

"This year's theme is a great reminder of that, and the events really celebrate all those aspects that are available to kids growing up in Hobsons Bay.

"We are proud to have partnered with the state government for more than 15 years to support this wonderful event that has as much in it for parents as it does for kids."

The full program of events is available at the Children's Week page. Bookings are required for some sessions.
