Conymet Duratray International is establishing a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and locating its global headquarters to Victoria.

The mining equipment designer and manufacturer will onshore its overseas manufacturing activities at the facility in southeast Melbourne.

The facility includes a new innovation division that will focus on mining data analytics, Internet of Things, machine learning and advanced composite materials for its product line.

The company intends to draw on Victoria's highly skilled workforce and innovation and R&D capabilities to develop expertise in these areas.

'We are very excited to embark on this new innovation journey in Victoria,' says Marcelo Medel, Managing Director, Conymet Duratray International.

'The support we've had from the state government on many initiatives over the years has been a key enabler for us to develop, expand and grow our business into Australia and the other 34 countries where we export our technology.'

Medel says the company is committed to supporting Victoria to become the mining tech hub of Australia, given its strengths in the METS, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors.

Conymet Duratray International can leverage Victoria's international logistics and distribution network to service its key export markets and the state's growing METS sector.

First large-scale Chilean investor in Australia

Conymet Duratray International was the first Chilean company to make a substantial investment in Australia and celebrates 20 years in the country this year.

The company acquired an Australian firm that manufactured a wide range of industrial technology products, including an innovative design for dump trucks that featured a lightweight tray with a rubber mat, high-capacity synthetic suspension ropes and a steel frame resistant to abrasion.

This resilient and cost-effective product was an instant hit in the mining industry, enabling Conymet Duratray International to quickly grow its export operations. Attendance at Austrade trade missions to major mining shows also helped the company to win new contracts.

Austrade has supported Conymet Duratray for close to two decades, providing briefings, market intelligence and referrals to tax, legal and accounting experts to support their business internationally. In 2018, the Australian Government recognised the company for making the first large-scale Chilean investment in Australia and for its subsequent achievements.
