The calendar has fallen perfectly for locals and visitors' alike seeking fresh Tasmanian produce or last minute gifts for Christmas.

With Christmas Eve being on a Saturday, the iconic Salamanca Market will be in full swing, chock full of fresh berries, vegetables and other mouth-watering produce, as well as local crafts, spirits and other potential presents to go under the tree.

It is the first time since 2016 that Christmas Eve has fallen on a market day.

The market will have a special Christmas feel, with Santa Claus making an appearance as well as the Trombone Choir and the Ho Ho Ho Christmas Choir singing carols throughout.

Hobart Councillor Bill Harvey said there would be no better place to be on Christmas Eve than at Salamanca.

"Whether it is getting a last minute present or stocking up on the finest and freshest Tasmanian produce, you will find whatever you need at the market," Cr Harvey said.

"Salamanca Market always has a great vibe, but throw in Christmas as well and it will be the perfect festive atmosphere."

Long-time stall holder John Short said the day fell perfectly for his florist stall.

"It will be a really nice vibe, it will be a really nice feeling," Mr Short said.

"People are happy. We sell 95 per cent to locals so it is a good locals market. People can come down and get their fresh produce and we are a part of that.

"It is brilliant timing this year, last year we were a full week out and that's harder for cut flowers.

"It means people can get fresh flowers right there and then on the spot because flowers you can't buy a months in advance.

"It works really, really well."

Christmas lilies are in hot demand at this time of year for obvious reasons.
