Christmas eve impound in Tempy

Police have impounded a vehicle after it was observed speeding in Tempy on Christmas eve.

Officers from Ouyen detected a grey Mazda sedan allegedly travelling at 186km/h in a 100km/h section of the Sunraysia Highway on Friday, 24 December just before 11pm.

Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the driver, a 23-year-old man from Mildura.

He is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous and other traffic offences.

His car has been impounded for 30 days with towing costs of $1,775.

This impound forms part of Operation Roadwise, a state-wide road policing operation during the high-risk Christmas period.

Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Roadwise runs until 11:59pm Sunday 26 December 2021.
