Christopher Lathan appointed Chief Clinical Access and Equity Officer at Dana-Farber

Christopher Lathan, MD, MS, MPH, has been promoted to Chief Clinical Access and Equity Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a new institutional leadership position that also adds him to Dana-Farber's Executive Leadership Team.

In this new role, Lathan will lead system-wide efforts to combat structural racism and improve health care outcomes for all patients and communities served by Dana-Farber by implementing new initiatives to reduce disparities in access to care. Lathan will also partner with community and local leaders to address common challenges, such as health equity, social justice, and racism. This new role will combine elements of Lathan's work leading Dana-Farber's Cancer Care Equity Program with his efforts through the Dana-Farber Network to enhance our research across all communities, and to create greater access to care.

"By establishing this new leadership role with a champion for equity like Chris, I know we can make real progress to eliminate disparities and make sure nothing stands between lifesaving cancer care and everyone who needs it. This is at the very heart of Dana-Farber's mission," said Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, president and CEO, Dana-Farber.

"This is a great opportunity to directly impact cancer care for underserved patients throughout our institution, in a culmination of the work that we have been doing in the Cancer Care Equity Program. We are looking forward to continuing to innovate and integrate our efforts with our community partners locally, and beyond," said Lathan.

Lathan has been a member of the Dana-Farber staff since joining the Thoracic Oncology Program in 2005. He was appointed the first Faculty Director of Cancer Care Equity at Dana-Farber in 2010 and directs our clinical service at Whittier Street Health Center. Lathan also serves as Medical Director for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Brighton and Associate Medical Director for the Dana-Farber Network. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

A graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, Lathan completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center where he served as Chief Medical Resident in 2002. He completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare in 2005.
