Road upgrade works to Churchill Avenue, between Tobin Street and Port Fairy Road in Ararat, were completed this week.
The comprehensive project included the installation of new kerb and channel infrastructure, the reconstruction of select footpath sections, and improvements to the existing drainage network.
Following the completion of these renewal works, the roadway has received a fresh resurfacing, substantially improving both its safety and accessibility.
The road has now been reopened; however, there will be some ongoing work required to complete the nature strip and drainage.
A key early step in the project involved a demolition contractor who, earlier this year, removed decommissioned services from beneath the roadway. This cleared the way to safely lower active gas and water lines, a proactive measure to prevent potential future hazards.
This project is one of two significant road infrastructure upgrades in Ararat. A second major project is planned for Webb Street, between Churchill Avenue and McArthur Street.
Both initiatives have collectively received $1.5 million in funding through the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery Program.
"The completion of the Churchill Avenue upgrade project marks another significant milestone in Council's commitment to improving our local road network," says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.
"We really appreciate the cooperation and patience from Churchill Avenue residents and the wider community, which enabled us to successfully deliver these important upgrades."
